NEW FULL COLOR COMICS ANTHOLOGY!

I've been working with 8 other comic artists to create this sweet full color book! It comes with a casette tape mix tape with an eclectic mix of bands and musicians doing original tracks inspired directly from teh comics in the book! IT"S GONNA BE BEAUTIFUL! check out the kickstarter video! I made it with a sock puppet because I thought it'd be too awkward if it was just me talking and it turned out pretty weeeeeird! Was going for that videodrome thing...

The other artists in the book are:

Ben Bertin, Robert Calzone, William Cleveland, Lisa Cline, Lyra Hill, Nick Jackson, Ian McDuffie and Jeremy Tinder! They're all incredible artists and the comcis in the book are beautiful and varied in their mediums and styles.

I can't wait to see this monster in print! Chromazoid will be premiering at this years Minneapolis Indie Expo! Check out their web page HERE.

And! a different cut of the animation for a music video for East Village solo music artist, Idgy Dean, is screening on December 30th in New York City, at Ice Cage, 113 Ludlow.

I was talking to a friend of mine about selling comics at music shows and music at comics shows and we decided to put that together in the next thing. So my next comic, Hyperspeed to Nowhere, a 28 page, full color, sci-fi... romp? will come with a cd by my dear friend Mr. Carsten. of Mr. Carsten and the Caustic Embrace. Mr. Carsten is gonna throw together some thrash noise garbage inspired by the comic, tracks like Negative Worm Hole ...or something. He's gonna use the comic as a jumping off point for a mess of sound that will be in a neat pocket in the back of the comic. And itll be liiiiike 6 bux?
Gimme 2 months.
We'd put it on tape cus its cheaper but how would we slip a tape into a comic? ziplock? price goes up.
I'm bloody excited about it.

Finally got these jumbo half tone dots. Did it in the most ass backwards way, screen capture from an illustrator doc, then opened in photoshop.
Screen Capture; the layman's rasterizer and resizer. Toggling between ai and ps nearly killed the old g4 anyways.

This is going to be the cover of HOTDOGBEACH 1. I think.

The animating and the scanning and the coloring are all finished. My wrists are aching. Now its time for the final cut pro obstacle course, and the sound-editing maze. Who wants a beer?

1 Make-shift Animation Stand: 1Broken stool, 2 Clamps, a few rubber bands and a couple of sticks. Velcro ties would have been ideal. I'm so damned proud; I'm blogging about it to no one.

Aboveground Animation at Ramiken Crucible presents an eclectic compilation of visually stunning animated shorts. The screening of selected works first debuted in winter of 2008 in Chicago at Co-Prosperity Sphere, ground zero of Bridgeport’s burgeoning art scene. It is now revived in New York City at the subterranean art gallery, Ramiken Crucible. The screening will consist of a cross-section of experimental work made by some of the most talented contemporary animators: Martha Colburn, Kathleen Daniels, Bruno B. Dicolla, Ryan Doherty, Barry Doupe, Erin Dunn, Casey Jane Ellison, Steve Emmons, Lauren Gregory, Clara Kim, Chris Letson, Amy Lockhart, Seth Scriver, Chris Taylor, and Lale Westvind will participate. There will be an opening reception on May 19 at 7:00pm featuring selected artworks from the participating artists, followed by a screening every night beginning at 8:00pm each night through May 23. Tickets are $10 and available only at the door on the night of the show.

Meanwhile, the first 24 pages of Hot Dog Beach are in preparation to be released as an independent issue, HDB EPISODE 1, introducing Mop, Fuzz, Mr. Bizznizz, Flesh Gun and Plumo! I'll get it together and put it out in May.

The thingy** will be 12 pages at least of these "weird" one page comics that I "create" by doodling around with a pencil till I think of something that makes me "chuckle".

Here are the first three, made while I was working at a highly unsanitary and soulless meat facility in an unnamed mystery supEr markEt. During this dark period, I became highly obsessed with the nameless mountains of blood that inhabited the walk-in, like the carcasses of so many ton tons strewn about a sunless Hoth, slaughtered to rescue no one. Notice the persistent references to meat products, i.e. "Hot Dog Girl", "Burger Army", "Meat Dreams".

A TALE OF GREAT INEFFICIENCY

I remember,
years ago, I was traveling on the M1, going south on fifth avenue, on my way to high school. I was sitting in back, the last seat of the bus, next to the window. A man sitting some, five or so seats ahead of me, began rummaging around his seat, calmly at first, until he was frantically scratching away at the crack between the seats. Whispered profanities evolved into animal grunts and groans as he wrestled with the blue plastic forms, attempting to tear them from the wall of the bus. The bus driver's cocked eyebrows could be seen in the mirror for quite some time now and suddenly he pulled over the bus and stood up.

"WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO MY BUS!"

to which the angry, sweaty man instantly replied

"MY GODDAMNED WEDDING BAND FELL IN THE CRACK!"

Now all passengers had eyes on the scene, a new york city classic performed with a bit too much gusto. Bad actors. I'm gettin' off. The bus leaned to one side as the passengers crowded around, all trying to fit their fingers between the seats. There was something faintly obscene about the whole thing though i couldn't quite put my... Some one yelled "HE"S LYING! THEIR AINT NO RING DOWN THERE!" I thought the angry man would strangle the heckler for ruining the grand performance. I waited for the riot to break out, for the mob to tear the seats from the wall and throw them through the windows FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

Just then an elderly woman whipped a red handled switchblade from her purse and held it under the bus driver and the angry man's noses. I gasped.

"SCREW DRIVER" she says.

"SCREW YOU LADY!" said the bus driver.

"NO! SCREWDRIVER!"

Everyone blushed as the bus driver took the red handled screwdriver in his hand.

I didn't stay to watch them sensibly disassemble the bus, sabotaging the entire M1 schedule that day. I got off, and walked. What an asshole. How'd it get stuck down there in the first place huh?

You Are Not Me

I was on the M1 bus today, going downtown on fifth avenue. There was only one other person on the bus, a woman in pearls. After staring at me for about twenty minutes from the front of the bus, she walked right up to me and smiled so I said "Hi." and she didn't say anything but she handed me a tiny piece of paper that had printed on it "YOU ARE NOT ME". Then she smiled and sat back down at the front of the bus. I thought this was kind of aggressive behavior on her part. I wanted to stand up and say "I know I'm NOT YOU! I'm ME GODDAMMIT!" but its the kind of thing that if you don't do it immediately you just end up thinking about for the rest of the bus ride, till you get off. I imagined the work she had to have put into the action. She had to get onto the computer, type it up, print it out, cut it down just so... and then waiting on the bus, for the perfect moment, for the moment when it was just me and her. If only I had gotten her first.

Hey! what? Drawing comics on the computer is weird.
